What do you do when you're not at your best?

You know those days when you just don’t have it? Honestly, today feels like one of those days for me. I’ve been struggling to find the right message, work has been challenging, and shoulder rehab has been frustrating—it’s wearing me out. So, what do you do when you feel like this?

This week, I went to a U of I basketball practice. At the start, the players looked sluggish. But they had a coaching staff to push them—and trust me, they did. Some days, I wish I had someone like that to push me, to hold me accountable. Because these tough days? They’re the ones that define success or failure. The easy days take care of themselves. It’s the hard days when no one would notice if you slacked off, that really matter. We’ve talked about the process before, and today, I’m being tested.

Earlier this year, my good friend John Schumacher asked me what a successful year would look like. I have financial goals, but that wasn’t my answer. I told him my year would be a success if I got this message out every Friday for the entire year. That would prove to myself that I can stick to a process—even on days like today when I just don’t feel like it.

And here we are. The message is out, and I showed up. Now, I’m putting my big-boy pants on and finishing the day strong.

We all have days like this. Don’t let the tough ones define you—you define them. Acknowledge the struggle, fight through it, and remember that these moments are temporary. When the day is over, take pride in the fact that you didn’t quit. Look yourself in the mirror and appreciate that you turned a tough day into a win.
