Good morning, Friday Message Tribe!

We’ve all heard the saying, love is blind. And if we’re honest, we’ve probably seen it in action—people having blind spots for those they deeply care about. It happens all the time. Parents, significant others, mentors, childhood idols—we tend to overlook flaws when love is involved.

I’ve heard that phrase my entire life. Sixty years of it, in fact. But in all that time, there’s another phrase I don’t think I’ve ever heard. I hadn’t even thought about it until the day after the President’s address to Congress this week. And before you check out thinking I’m about to get political—I’m not. This is bigger than politics. It’s a realization that hit me hard:

There’s something even more blind than love—hate.

I watched grown adults so consumed by hate that rational thought and basic human decency seemed to disappear. And let’s be real—this isn’t exclusive to one side. Both sides are guilty of it.

Now, I know people who lie and cheat. And because of that, they wouldn’t be part of my Tribe. I don’t consider them friends, and I wouldn’t call them good people. But here’s the thing—I also recognize that even they have done good things. They’ve shown kindness to some, donated to charities, and helped others in need. Does that change my overall opinion of them? No. But I can acknowledge that those acts, in themselves, were good.

So how did we get to a place where people refuse to do that? When did we become so blinded by hatred that we can’t even recognize something good when it’s right in front of us? Or worse—when we do recognize it but refuse to acknowledge it because of who it came from? That’s beyond my understanding.

So, check yourself. We all have strong opinions and beliefs—I know I do. But have we let them harden into something so extreme that we’re blind to even the possibility of good in others? I hope that we haven’t. We should be evolved enough as human beings to see light, even on the darkest days.
